The Realtek RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG (hereafter referred to as the RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG is a highly integrated Ethernet transceiver that is compatible with 10Base-T, and100Base-TX IEEE 802.3 standards. It provides all the necessary physical layer functions to transmit and receive Ethernet packets over CAT.5 UTP cable.
The RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG uses state-of-the-art DSP technology and an Analog Front End (AFE) to enable long-distance data transmission and reception over UTP cable with proprietary LD100 mode. For long-distance application over one-paired UTP cable or coaxial cable, 100BASE-T1 and another proprietary mode LD10 are implemented in the RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG to provide robust transmission and reception.
Data transfer between MAC and PHY is via the MII (Media Independent Interface) or RMII (Reduced Media Independent Interface) for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 100BASE-T1, LD10, and LD100. The MII can only function work in the RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG since the pinout of the RTL8201GR(I)-VB-CG has been reduced.
In addition, the RTL8201G(I)-VB-CG can be used in any embedded system with an Ethernet MAC that needs a UTP physical connection.
